Crockpot hospitality? You may be wondering, what is that?

Well, I’m glad you asked…there’s a story behind it! It all started like this.

Once upon a time, my wife whipped up a delicious batch of corned beef and cabbage in our beloved crockpot.

It was simmering all day, so the aroma permeated the house. Our mouths were watering long before dinner time.

(BTW, we love our crockpot not only because it produces so many delicious meals, but also because it makes dinner an easy affair, as we have a toddler and an infant who both make life interesting.)

As we enjoyed the aroma, one of us had the great idea to call up some friends from church (who also have two little ones about the same age as ours) and invite ourselves- and our slow cooker- over for dinner.

(Yes, we actually called!) What do you know, our self- invitation was accepted, so we went.

It was like reverse hospitality; we told them not to worry if the house was messy, but they probably cleaned up a bit anyways. I think we all do that to some extent. But on the flip side, they didn’t have to cook dinner or plan any activities for the little ones. We just spent time together, ate together, and enjoyed each other’s company.

We all had a great time, the kids kept each other occupied (for the most part), we got to spend an evening socializing, and we gave another young couple a night off from cooking with a ready-made dinner.
